Five more skin care myths dispelled

We often think that the higher the SPF, the better the protection. It is a misconception. Sunscreen with a minimum of SPF35 provides around 96% protection while that with SPF100 will provide 99%! The FDA actually considered capping SPF at 50 at one time.
There is a popular myth that eating chocolates causes acne. Chocolate doesn’t cause acne. Acne is caused by hormonal imbalances. What happens is – chocolate causes an imbalance in sugar levels that further leads to fluctuations in the hormonal levels causing a pimple or two but not trigger acne.
It’s a myth that scrubbing your face with soap will keep your skin healthy and acne free. When you scrub your face, you’re taking off some of the protective oils and barriers, which tend to lead to rashes and even burns. Use gentle cleanser followed by a moisturiser or sunscreen. Most believe that using expensive products works best. This is simply not true. One shouldn’t blindly believe what is written on the labels of high-end products.
Anti-aging products (or “wrinkle creams”) can erase wrinkles. Most wrinkle creams simply hydrate skin, plumping them out and making them look temporarily better. So don’t go with the hype.
